Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: Short answer- No. We are an out-of-network chiropractic care office. As a wellness-based practice, we are not enrolled with any insurance companies as we seek to provide holistic, patient-centered care. Insurance is for sickness and our approach to health is to support healthy body functioning by helping the body do what it is made to do. We do have the option to provide a superbill so you (the patient) are able to submit it to your insurance for reimbursement.
Q: How often do I need to come?
A: When you are first starting care with us, it is common to have several adjustments within a week or two. As your body starts adjusting to its “new normal”, less and less adjustments will be needed. Most of our patients choose to come once every 1-2 months as a proactive measure even when they are not in “pain”, simply because they like the way they feel and function after an adjustment. Ultimately, it depends on every person’s situation and health as some may need more frequent adjustments and others hold their adjustments longer and don’t need as frequent of care.
Q: What is the “popping” sound?
A: First and foremost, it’s important to note that not every adjustment produces a “pop” or “crack”. However, commonly manual adjustments produce this audible sound due to the release of gas (nitrogen) from the synovial joints. This gas can build up within these joints that are subluxated and by releasing them, it relieves muscle tension, reduces pain, and calms the nervous system down. Whether you hear an abundance of pops or none at all, there is no need to worry as this does not correlate with the creation of joint movement.
Q: I don’t like the “popping” sound. Can I get adjusted a different way?
A: There are several techniques we use that do not involve the “cracking” or “popping”. We commonly use a drop table and Activator, which is a hand-held device that provides a very specific, gentle, and quick adjustment.
Q: Can kids get adjusted? What about babies?
A: Yes and Yes! We recommend that children get checked from birth. All births, whether natural, assisted, or caesarean, long or short, create lots of stress on the baby’s nervous system and spinal cord. While they are discovering to roll over, crawl, and eventually walk, they are learning new motor patterns and commonly take spills. Regular chiropractic adjustments are imperative to keeping them in alignment during these fast changing years.
Q: Can I get adjusted when I am pregnant?
A: Absolutely and we highly recommend it. Dr. Angela has completed additional training and education to be Webster Technique certified. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis that is particularly unique to our pregnant patients. It focuses on balancing the bones, muscles, and ligaments of the pelvis using very gentle chiropractic adjustments. By reducing interference to the nervous system, the mother’s pelvic muscles and ligaments may contribute to optimal fetal positioning in preparation for birth.
